Re:  the alternators you guys are discussing.  Years ago I picked up an old
WWII Signal Corps alternator.  The alternator itself was made by Century
Electric, known for its massive conservative ratings.  The SC rated it at 15
KW.  It was driven by a "spark diesel" engine manufactured by Waukesha and
turned over at 1200 rpm delivering "15kw" 3 phase.  Cost:  $300!  These
babies may still be around, and in higher ratings.

p.s.  I was forced to sell as I had to move and could no longer store it.
I've regretted it ever since.
