Re: AC wire resistance and skin effect
| There are good working formulae in almost any edition
|of the "Radiotron Designers' Handbook" and ITT Radio Handbooks.
|Will post same here when I can get the ambition.

I should have engaged brain before typing that one. The
inductance formulae I was talking about are in every edition of
Radiotron Designer's Handbook I have seen. In the 4th edition
in front of me they are in Chapter 10 "CALCULATION OF INDUCTANCE",
particularly pp 429-449. Formulae and tables for "self-capacitance"
are in Chapter 11, pp451-452.
The formulae for high-frequency resistance of wires are
in "REFERENCE DATA for RADIO ENGINEERS", originally published
by INTERNATIONAL TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH CORPORATION, and no
now published by HOWARD B. SAMS. I happen to have the 4th edition
in front of as well, and the stuff on skin effect is in Chapter
5, "FUNDAMENTALS OF NETWORKS", pp 128-132. Later editions, of
which mine is at the office, also give interesting equations for
single-layer solenoid Q based on frequency, coil shape, and
coil diameter. Will try to post the reference on that later,
or perhaps the formulae and tables themselves.
