	The current carriers are the electrons which are emitted
by the filament (cathode) and flow to the positive plate.  The return
path is through the external circuit, and there is no reverse flow
in the tube (unless it's gassy, and that is then not a vacuum tube!).
At some early point someone decided to make the convention of 
current flow as being from positive to negative, but that is only
a convention.
	By the way, that is an ancient book by Bucher!  Interesting
to a history of technology person like me, but quite obselete as
far as circuit details go.  All, or at least most, of his circuits
have about twice as many parts (particularly coils and variable
capacitors) as are needed.  People had fun in those days, and tubes
were more expensive than the other parts.
