Richard,

I've had good luck (6+ coil-years w/o neon xfmr failure) by using chokes
with the following dimensions:

Winding Form - 1.5" dia PVC pipe, 4" length

Winding Length - 2.5" of 26ga magnet wire, close-wound, single layer

One choke is reqd in series with each xfmr output terminal.
