I imagine all of us have at one time or another been challenged by the
uninitiated as you have been.

One of the commonest questions I get is, 'What use is it?" They can't
figure why I'd spend money and lots of time, just to sit there and watch
electrical snakes issuing forth from the top terminal. My favorite
comeback is, "It's a fancy mosquito killer" (fleakiller, what have you?)
 Generally, though, after I've fired it up for them and they get a scope
on the electrical displays, they're suitably impressed, like, with mouth
open and gaping eyes.

Don't be intimidated by questions which seek to make you feel less than
good about yourself and your interests..  Pity the questioner instead;
he/she hasn't the innate curiousity which you possess, nor the ambition
(and just plain hard work) to resurrect an idea a century old into life
again. Besides, why does everything we do have to have any 'useful
purpose": it's fun just to create something like this for the fun of
it.

Forge ahead!!
