This being the case, it could be used in place of a diac to triger a
triac into conduction BUT with breakover voltages as high as 90 volts
you would be better off using a neon-2 bulb it fires at around 75 
volts. The Diacs that were used in the triac dimmers had trigger 
voltages down to 2 or 3 volts thus allowing control over a wider
range.
