We have used SF6 as a resonance transformer insulating gas with success.
We operated at 120 PSI in a 18 inch dia. tank. The quenching problems and
toxic gas formation problems are eliminated by keeping the cap and RSG
outside of the tank and running the HV into the tank thru ceramic feedthru
insulators. This isn't a good project for someone who is looking to make
sparks on a bargain because the HV vacuum feedthru's are expensive and also
the output sparks are repressed in the tank. If you are looking for sparks
don't bother with this technique.
