For the 42" spark, I use two .014uF caps in series for .007uF.
Polypropylene, Maxwell brand.
But homemade rolled polyethylene will give the same results.  The 
dimensions of the Maxwell caps are 4" x 6" x 8.5". (without the mounting
bolts which stick out about 0.5" on each end)   Each is rated
at 45kV (AC?).   I used what I had.  One .007uF cap rated at 30kV
AC would be adequate and would be smaller physically.  I should 
toss a vacuum quenched static gap onto that coil and see how much
the spark diminishes.
