Ron,
   I would suggest two things for oil that has been exposed to contaminants
like dirt and water.   First if there are any visible particles, you should
filter it through a very fine filter media(0.7 micron or less).  Vacuum
filtration would speed this up greatly.  Second, you should heat it at 250ºF
for several hours to drive off any moisture that might be in it.  That should
make it usable.  Of course, it would be better to use new oil, but in a
pinch.....
