Another thought:

I don't believe MRI's use 15kV _at_ 300 amps.  They have a field
electromagnet that might very well consume 300 amps of DC.  They also
have a high voltage _pulser_ which might use the 15kv supply to charge
the caps, but I bet it doesn't average more than an amp or less.
