  Max,
Another thing came to mind  after I sent the message.  Fr. Tom
recommended using a well matched cap to create a resonant voltage rise
between the cap and the xfrms.  According to the rule of thumb of about
.01uf for every 30ma these puppies need about .1uf cap.  I have noticed
a significant rise when matched with a cap this big.
