Subject: Insulating Primary Coil

Ok hello all i need some information im doing a 500 watt tesla coil
for a school project. Now i dont want to kill myself or anyone
especially at my age. I can insulate the whole tank circuit and line
voltages to stop people inserting there fingers in a nasty place.
However the primary is still fully exposed. The output dosent really
bother me thats what i want to muck about with.

My idea why not build a plexi glass box around the primary with a
closable door on it the top of the box would have a circular hole for
the secondry to go through. tho top of the box would not go to high up
the secondry to allow tracking of HV.

The million $ or £ question is would a say 4 mm piece of plexi glass
effect the magnetic flux on the primary.

Any responce would be greatly appreciated

thanks
.Ross
