Hi to all,

Got home today after being away on business for two weeks. Went to the
coil and fitted a 8" x 1.5" home made toroid. Added 1000pf to the
resonant circuit in parallel with the existing 1250pf fixed cap and
250pf wide spaced variable. Calculated the new frequency at +/- 322 kHz.
Powered her up to get my "fix" after being away from my baby so long.
Too my supprise got 520mm ( 20.4" ) discharges with ease. A 95mm
( 3.7" ) improvement over the standard arrangement with only a sharp
discharge point on top. I fitted a 75mm sharp point discharge on top of
the toroid. The anodes now glow a little more than before. Conclusion:-
The toroid definitely improves performance.
The toroid is a piece of ribbed PVC formed into a ring and wrapped with
aluminium foil from the kitchen. I covered a paper plate with foil as
well and placed it on top of the ring. I then made a retaining "flat
oval " from 1/2" aluminium flat bar to secure the toroid to the top of
the coil. Not too pretty, but it works.

Regards to all
