Arwin,

There's nothing magical about 1000 turns.  My present coil has only 
460 turns, and it works fine.  The 1000 turn requirement for small 
coils is a myth.  I've seen hobby type coils with everything from 300 
turns to 2000 turns of wire.  All of them worked!
