parts list

here is a simplified list for those who are asking for one

What you need:

power supply- transformer, (neon signs and microwave transformers work
well)
capacator- salt water capacitors work well for a beginner, and are
dirt cheap
spark gap- this can be as simple as to pecieces of metal very near
each other
primary coil- 20 - 30 feet of copper tubing wraped in a number of shapes
to chose from
secondary coil- the form for this can be a PVC pipe varnished, and the coil
can be magnet wire 22 - 30 gague wraped and varnished
top load- a toroid or sphere of metal

What you want (but don't nessisaraly need):

RF chokes - pvc wraped with magnet wire, these protect your transformer
from the radio frequency
safty gap- this protects your transformer from high voltage

there are a number of other things you may want (ie. rotary spark gaps,
expensive triggering mechanisms, health insurance), but these are for more
advenced coilers.

happy coiling,
Ramsey
