Patrick,

Find the names and locations of all the surplus dealers in your area and
visit them frequently and let them know what you are looking for.
Surplus dealers have a great many "contacts" and suppliers and can
eventually find what you are looking for if you are patient and let them
know your needs. I have two major surplus dealers in my area and make it
a point to visit them at least every two weeks.

I bought the variac you are referring to for $175.00 and it was still on
it's original shipping skid. The surplus dealer had just gotten it in as
part of a 'lot' of items and it was in his way. I have made many such
variac and powerstat purchases over the years in this manner with
comparable prices.

Hamfests are a good source of Tesla related goodies, but I have yet to
see a large 3 or 4 gang variac at a hamfest, they are just too large and
heavy to cart around. One man's boat anchor is another man's treasure.
