Actually Ed, it's both! The ozone is an irritant to the lungs if for no
other reason than it's increased reactivity, it will kill lung tissue by
literally oxidizing it. The  nitrogen in the air will also react with the
ozone forming nitrogen oxides (some are quite poisonous) and even forming
some nitric acid. Very nasty stuff to breath in!
