Actually.. the cap wasn't mine-- the text was stolen from someone's web
page, provided for the benefit of Chris Boden, I believe. 
I had given thought of using threaded nylon rod for a while back for an
adjustable spark gap-- with the elements being movable much like the
plates in the cap you envisioned. Wouldn't it be a shame, though, if a
track were burned through the rod, and you had to re-set all those
manymanymanymanymany washers? I think I'll stick to good old SW and
poly-oil caps for now.

Buuutttt...  I'd want to take the adjustable cap a step further, and
submerse it in oil...-- but now I'm treading on ancient ground, aren't I?
