Hi Eric,
	Although I have not tried it a pneumatic switch should be pretty safe. You
could try getting one out of an old washing machine, they are generally
disk shaped and about 1" to 1 1/2" in diameter and live near the top of the
drum. Much better to use a variac if you can get hold of one.
