WinTesla 3.2 Formulas

Hey all,

Happy holidays.

I'm working on the next version of WinTesla, and am trying to refine some of
my equations in the program, and I would like some feedback from those of you
who take notes when you experiment.

First, I am adding spark gap information, and updating the terminal
capacitance value. One factor that hasn't been documented too well as of yet
is the effects of relative humidity on spark gaps and tuning. The dielectric
strength of air changes with humidity, and thus changes the capacitance of
your top load capacitor and the trigger voltage of your spark gaps. I know
that when it's colder and less humid, I have to set my RSG gaps closer, and
re-tune the primary. The output of the coil, however, doesn't seem to be
affected??

Second, a value of 8400 volts/inch has been stated as a measure of output
spark, but doesn't hold for gap settings, since un-ionized air requires
closer spacing for the same voltage. This is why (if you have a variable
spark gap) you have to move the gaps closer to begin a session, but can then
move them apart while operating to get more output.

I'd be interested in any experiments with humidity and spark gap settings, or
just observations/oddities in tuning and such.

Thanks in advance,

R. Scott Coppersmith
