It will work, but welding cable (fine strand) slipped inside tygon tubing
(for increased insulation) works the best.  Use 4 or 6 AWG for NST powered
units and 2 ought for the pole pig powered units.  One area where you can
use the copper tubing is the inside of the primary.  Many builders terminate
here, but it is best to just extend the inside of the primary down into your
base and connect directly thus saving an extra resistance connection.  Tygon
tubing slipped over this short section also works great.
