Re: Linseed Oil

Dennis,
Well if you are really really worried about an explosion, Linseed oil
probably isn't the way to go. Many people, including myself will use Mineral
Oils which isn't as combustible(well at least spontaneously). One possibity
you might look into is on the stand of your tesla coil, put 1/8"-1/4" thick
plexiglass or acrylic to cover it up. If you do this, don't cover the stand
completely! Leave a few inches off the top for venilation purposes and most
importatntly, if you have a fire, you can at least stick a fire extinguisher
or two inside to put out the fire.Do this only if everything in your stand(ie
NSTs/PT, caps, etc) are all hooked up and don't need touch them too often.
This protective layer will serve two purposes.
The first being it is actually not only protecting the stuff inside, but it
will also protect any kids/animals/who knows what from touch components of
the tesla coil when in operation and in storage. The second best thing is if
a cap explodes, you won't be getting plastic(or fiberglass in your case) all
over the place. The schrapnel (not to mention burning oil) will at most in
this case take out your Tesla Coil and not your whole house.
good luck
