Alternative to threaded coil forms?

I really don't have any readily available way to tread my secondary coil
form. Has any body tried simultaneously winding magnet wire and nylon
monofilament side by side, using the monofilament to space the magnet wire?
Seems like it would work, but is there really any point to
doing it rather than close winding the mag wire?
