Re: IR remote control?

Jan, I use an RF remote controller device as my primary switch. I use
X10 stuff which you can get at Radio Shack--an "appliance module" and
the "keychain remote module". Total cost was about $20. The keychain
transmitter looks like a car alarm gadget and has two channels. I use
one for my actual TC and the other to contol the several lights around
my TC (which required $10 wall switch modules). That way I can kill the
lights, turn on the TC for a minute, turn off the TC, then turn on all
the lights with it. Works great. Have never had it not respond due to
RF from the TC. Of course, I always unplug the NST whenever I'm tuning
or tinkering in addition to turning off the RF switch.

Also, and this may be a bad idea, but I've used the X10 inductive dimmer
unit (which says it is designed specifically for transformer uses such
as low-voltage lighting) to not only switch the TC but as a cheapo
"variac" to vary input power. So far no smoke or fire :)
