kv-kid,
A air blast gap *is* a static gap! The electrodes do not move, hence the word
"static".
There are two basic catagories of spark gaps...static and rotary in those
catagories are sub-catagories for instance under static gaps there are
RQ/TCBOR gaps,air blast gaps,crap gaps and the like.There configuration
details are not very important as long as they fit the basic definition i.e.
air blast gap uses a blast of air to quench the arc.it does not matter if
the electrodes are brass,Cu, if the base plate is made out of plexiglas or
delrin. If there is a blast of air present to quench the arc it is a "air
blast gap" period.
