has anybody tried using brushes instead of a gap?

I just replaced my charge pump cct with a single 2kV MOT- gives 20" to
ground pt using a single static gap (which gets REALLY HOT). I want to build
a rotary gap, with minimal losses (since my primary V is quite low).
