Snipperzz...

Hi Ryan ...

the normal setup which is found on a pig is 2 hi volt "outputs" ( the 2 big
insulated
bushings off the top)
the 3 "inputs" on the case somewhat to the upper 1/3 of the case in height
and an
another connection towards the bottom half of the case

the connection that is attached to the case itself is a grounding connection

the other 3 smaller insulated connector are the " infeed" ( since we are
reversing the
voltage flow)
normally the middle connector is not used

the 2 outer connectors are wired with normally 240VAC ( one leg to each outer
connector)

the standard pole pig is basically 2 transformers built into one core
it can be wired in series to produce the higher voltage or in parralell to
produce a
lower voltage
there are normally 2 "input" cores and 2 "output" cores

by wiring the 2 input cores in parallel and the 2 output cores in series
you increase
the total voltage
output ( standard transformer action ... the more wraps the secondary has
compared to
the primary the higher the output voltage)

depending upon the supply voltage to the pig will determine the wiring of
the internal
taps of the pig

since this is your first pig and if it is a distribution trannie you may
find inside
it a switch that is connected between the "input" lugs and the trannie ...
this is
used normally to set the pig up for the different voltages that "would" be
supplied by
the hi volt power lines into the bigger insulated lugs on top of the pig

you can remove the switch and hard wire the system to the appropriate settings

most pigs have a metal plate on them showing the schematics as to how the
trannie is
wired study this well if you plan to open it up and do any modifications
