Hi Sam

good concept but normally "any" type of material that is between the gap metals
( the plastic / nonconducting threaded rod) other than air will eventually
begin to carbon track

the sparks created between the gaps are ionized air ( plazma) which are
extremely hot and full of lots o energy :)   in fact so full of energy and
electricity there are very few materials on earth that can handle the "tension"
created by those millions of electrons ripping thru / across / and over the
material.

there are some really great ceramic materials that could be used but
casting/machining  such a material is costly

keep thinking ;)   you may just come up with a really good design
