A neat thing that happened to my rotary spark gap.

The other day I was runnning my rotary with only
.0075uf in the tank. Even at that energy level,
something unexpected and amusing happened. I have my
stationary electrodes mounted on those blue plastic
electrical boxes that outlets are installed in. After
I shut the gap down, these boxes glowed momentarily
before dimming out. Apparantly, the UV radiation was
potent enough to excite particles in the plastic and
make them fluoresce! BTW, I was only using a 9kv
transformer. This is a really neat effect and added
bonus conversation piece. I was surprised so that the
UV was that strong. This is good support to the axiom,
Don't look at the arc!
