One idea I've not seen expressed here is one I used for variable line voltage as a kid. I would pick up those military surplus plate or filament transformers with the tapped primaries and us it as an auto transformer. Worked pretty well for a long time. Had one built up with a rotary swithc, meter, fuse and outlet for bench use all through high school. Back in the dark ages. 73 mike
