Robin,

I would think that the secondary should be OK for these sparks.
It may be just coupled a little too tight.   (just saw your other post
about humidity)..... I haven't noticed humidity causing racing sparks
on my coils.  You could try raising the secondary a little to see if
the racing sparks stop.
