Maybe you thought of this schematic:

   o----->|----o----|<----o
   |           |          |
   |     ||    |    ||    |
 --o-----||----o----||----o--
       - || +     + || -   

As far as I know, this actually is a way of making "bipolar"
electrolytics. I don't know if it is also suitable for PFC purposes.
