I repotted my Jefferson 15/60 NST in Vasoline, and it's given me no problems
since.  I know that if I had attempted to use liquid oil I'd be cursing the
leaks, since the original metal case was never designed to be liquid-tight.
I made no attempt to modify my shunts.

I would be very concerned at any arcing to the core prior to repotting.  It
doesn't take much arcing to carbonize the cardboard former, and that will be
a problem after potting.
