Sync gap strobe light.

Hi All,

I have successfully converted a Radio Shack strobe light to synced 60Hz
operation. Yeah!!

It seems to be perfectly locked at near zero phase shift and is tolerant of
line voltage and component variation. The conversion is pretty easy and
all the parts replacement parts are from Radio Shack too so any one who can
solder components should be able to do it. It does not needs no critical
adjustments or calibration. I think all the components are well within
their ratings and it seems perfectly solid. The image is extremely clear
and sharp. I think all the parts cost about $45. It even still works
fairly well as a variable rate strobe light.

I need to run a few more MicroSim models to check on some stuff and get the
instruction written up but this is just about as perfect of a gap timing
light as I can imagine. Many thank to Jim for the idea and the many people
who offered schematics and advice. Unfortunately, no two strobe lights are
designed the same, so this modification will only work with the Radio Shack
42-3048 which is a good solid and safe design. It will NOT work with the
other Radio Shack 42-3067 which is a much older design. I do not know
about the 42-3066 which could possibly have the same internal electronics
as the 42-3048.

I will try to get the instructions written up ASAP! and get them posted on
the web. I "may" offer fully converted units for people who don't have a
Radio Shack or who do not like soldering things and then plugging them in ;-))

Cheers,

	Terry
