Re: AC Split phase motor????

Hi John,

I think I suggested that the arc that killed my SRSG motor possibly
entered through a vent hole. I have video evidence of a brilliant arc
curving in under the base, and striking the side of the motor seconds
before all heck broke loose ! The video resolution isn't great, so I
am assuming it must have struck something inside the motor, as the
housing was securely grounded. The run winding failed open circuit.

As it happened my motor feed was fused at 13A (240V) to withstand the
extra starting current with the modified motor. Maybe the run winding
would not have fused if the supply had been fused at a lower current.

Youv'e guessed it, my next motor is of the totally sealed variety ;-)
