So it sounds like there is a fair amount of risk and the UPS may not run a
coil well...  A good idea I got is to get an old defunct one from a salvage
dealer.  Far cheaper and easy to tear into if I blow the electronics.  The
battery usually goes after a few years so old ones should be fairly common.
