Re: Terry's trigger circuit Q's

Hi Jonathon,

Chip did all the work this time :-))

Tonight I tried the triggered gap at our monthly meeting here...

The water cooled gap itself performed perfectly but was quite loud. The
gap was very cool and did not wear but a film of powder was deposited on
the copper surfaces. This may have been saw dust from the bare cut wood,
but I am not sure yet...

However, the trigger circuit "seemed" unstable. I did not have the scope
or anything but the "controls" seemed very weird. I think I was getting
false triggering or the gap spacing was wrong and it was miss firing. More
investigation is needed... However, the coil seemed to perform pretty well
regardless!! Some of the problems may be due to the small coil's finicky
requirements for gap timing and such. Hard to say this late night... But
I am happy with the results even if they are a little "odd" ;-))

The trigger circuit should definitely give a spark and all. If the
ignition coil has zero volts and zero sparks, something is broke... You
may want to review the stuff at:

and check for a dead dimmer or ignition coil.

Cheers,

	Terry
