If it were my pig, I wouldn't monkey around with it. 
A two-horned xfmr is no better or worse than a
one-horned xfmr.  Also, it doesn't pay to second guess
the engineer who designed the thing unless you are an
experienced EE yourself.  As-is, it is nearly
indestructable in hobby usage.  Start messing with it,
and who knows?
