Dear Robin and list,

These stories about damage caused to contact lens wearers by arc welding and
arcing of contactors certainly have a long shelf life! As an optometrist I
can assure everybody that these tales are furphies (Robin would know what
they are :O)).
They enjoyed a resurgence a year or two back, and in order to reassure
worried lens wearers, I obtained a copy of a statement by an eminent
ophthalmologist utterly refuting these claims.
So, contact lens wearers (myself included) don't worry, you are no more
prone to UV damage of the eyes than anyone else, but should of course always
protect yourself from strong sources such as SG's etc.
