I upped the primary turns and got a soda can topload. I don't feel like
spending time making a toroid for such a small coil. I meant 12 volts as in 12
volts input, output is probably around 12-20KV and 1-3ma. No offense but I have
used MOTs before and I think that they suck for TC use unless you have 2 or 3
of them in series for a higher voltage. I also dont want to deal with
inductive/resistive current ballasts if I can help, at least not until I get a
bigger coil. A MOT will make one hell of a Jacob's Ladder though. I should be
getting an NST soon so that should work better than my flakey ignition coil
setup. I tried connecting the ground to a cold water pipe and it didn't seem to
work any better.

hi, im twelve. try increasing the number of turns on the primary so you can
tune it better. ground it! enough said, use a topload hmm... use a toroid.
toroid's radius should extend 2-3 times the diameter of the secondary. using
bare wire and no topload creates almost no sparks, just a boring corona.
ahem.. did you say 12 volt ignition coil? did you mean to say 12kV? get an
old micrwave, maybe your parents have an old one they kept somewhere. take
out the screws to loosen the structure of the microwave, then hit it-- hard,
with blunt objects to finally bust it open. take out the transformer and
capacitor. use them to replace the 12V coil and beer caps. once you lay
your hands on a multi thousand volt transformer, well, welcome to the club.
