Hi Jonathon.

Aron and I have used primary to secondary coil spacings of 3/4 to 1" on ALL 
of our Tesla Coils (about 20) including several twins. From a 1.5" secondary 
powered -at- 100VA, to a 12" secondary running 10kVA. Transformer output 
voltages from 4kV up to 21.6kVRMS (the big coil).

On our old 4.5" TC running 15kV 900VA, the primary got as close as 3/8". No 
problems. We have never had problems with arcing *provided* that the system 
is in tune.
