Ion boy,

The Jacobs Ladder is much simpler than a tesla coil. Then neon sign
transformer or Oil burning ignition transformer that you are or going to use
for you tesla coil is workings of the thing. You just connect two metal
rods, (coat hangers straightened out and cleaned of the coating on them),
to the high voltage leads of the transformer, arrange them in a vee shape
and make so that the bottom on the vee is about 1/8 to 1/4",(just narrrow
enough that the arc starts at the bottem), and voa la, one jaccob ladder.
The only tricky part is mounting the rods or elements as some people call
them so that they hold in place and you can make connection to them. Lots
of fun the in window for Halloween :-)

P.S. the rods have to be really straight or the arc gets caught at the kink.
