It's been done... check the archives.  Essentially you wind up with the
equivalent of half the number of turns with twice the copper area.  I'm not
sure about the inductance.  It might be very close to spacewinding a coil
with wire that is 3 gauges bigger(in diameter).  

Certainly, it's worth thinking about, especially since it might reduce
winding time if you use some of that bifilar or trifilar magnet wire that
is available.
