frequency drift?

I was curious how far my TC was 'transmitting' around the neighborhood...
so i took my radio outside (it has a scale from 120khz-500khz) and walked
around the block.

found the peak frequency and walked around. about a block radius or so. it
never completely dropped off, but at around 1/2block, it dropped off by
about half of the signal strength.

what was odd was that the frequency seemed to drift higher by up to 30khz.
perhaps it had something to do with the fact that the cap
was failing. i ran it at full power for 2 more minutes after that,
and it died. took the cover off the cap tank, and lotsa smoke. :(
2 more in tank left. 2 are blown. hopefully the remaining 2 will hold out
till the mmc caps come in. i have to siphon some of the mineral spirits out
to get at the cap wiring to add the 2 i disabled a week ago. i can't wait
to take them apart and see the burn marks! ;)
