pole pig insanity!

Original poster: "Mr Gregory Peters by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <s371034-at-student.uq.edu.au>

I just got "another" 11kV 25kVA pole pig (I'm really getting quite a
collection now :-) ). I just thought you guys may be interested in the
following:

Most pigs I have seen have the insulation performance listed as meeting
a particular standard, the details of which I don't know. However, the
pig I just got was made in 1979 and actually has an insulation test
voltage stamped on the plate. It says "tested to 95kV". This is about
10x the rated voltage! No wonder pole pigs are so hard to kill! Try
putting 10x the rated voltage through an NST! The plate ratings really
are a joke. I'm no longer scared to run my safety gaps nice and wide.
