Wood and High Voltage

I am going to build an RG Type Sparkgap for any of my future tesla coils as
I hear good things about them, and they are also quite compact beauts ;-)

I need to know which wood I should use, since when I started messing with
HV, I noticed the HV lead from my flyback was burning my homemade plywood
workbench, and I later went on to burn my name in it. So, which wood will be
best to use? I am not very knowledgable about woods, and I only know about
MFD, Hardboard, Plywood, and various other common types like pine and
mahogony. So, which type of wood will be best?
