I just acquired some very large breakers, and was hoping someone could
give me some info on whether I could use them for capacitor discharge
stuff or not (or any additional info would be great). Here's all the
known specs, more or less as they are on the plate:
De-ion Air Circuit Breaker
50 DH-P 75
Rated KV 4.16
MAX Design KV 4.76
BIL KV 60
Rated MVA 75
MAX Amps 12500
MOM Amps 20000
Closing Range 90-13000
Trip Voltage 70-14000
I have 2 of these. I got them at an auction yesterday for 10 bucks,
along with a very nice stainless steel electrical box that goes to
something completely different. They were manufactured in december of
1971, and they were checked and tested on 4/5/88, I assume after being
pulled from service. They have probably been sitting in a warehouse for
a decade, but look brand new, except some oxidation on the suface of
some copper pieces. They are about 22" x 28" x 49" and have 1.5"
diameter solid copper terminals with very neat spring loaded connectors.
They probably weigh 300+ pounds each, as a very rough guess, but aern't
bad to move because they have their own steel casters that look as they
were on a very large rack, where they could slide in or out easily to
change breakers. Its fairly obviouse that they are 3 phase delta,
because there are three large terminals, so I have 6 contacts that I can
parrellel or series. Also, it looks like I can close these electrically
because there is what looks like a very large solenoid and plunger at
the bottom aimed at some very large plate that may push the contacts one
way or another?
My main questions are:
How much current could these handle in a pulse application?
Can I CLOSE the contacts electrically? If not would it be possible to do
it pneumatically, etc?
How much voltage could these hold off before closing?
Anybody familiar with these or similar?
