MOT's as Isolation Transformers - Follow Up

Original poster: "Matthew Smith by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <matt-at-kbc-dot-net.au>

Hi All

Further to previous postings regarding using MOTs either a) back to back
or b) with two primaries on one core as isolation transformers:

I thought I'd try most difficult route first ;-)

Removing the windings from an MOT is not really all that difficult
provided that a) the 'bar' of the core is under the primary and b) you
don't mind the possibility of damaging the secondary...

1)
Angle grinder to remove welds
2)
Hammer (gently) to remove 'bar' from 'E' of core
3)
Construct small hydraulic press from the bottle jack
	out of my 4x4 and some 50mm x 50mm x 1.6mm box section.
4)
Press core out of windings

Building the press isn't impractical as it sounds - I did it with
self-drilling bolts and plate cut from the base of a microwave oven, so
this took me about an hour or so. If you've got a welder, call it ten
minutes ;-)

Cheers

M
