Another Solid State Coil question

Original poster: "Daniel McCauley by way of Terry Fritz <twftesla-at-qwest-dot-net>" <dhmccauley-at-spacecatlighting-dot-com>

Sorry, one more question regarding solid state coils . . .

My first coil seems like its tuned the best thus far putting out about 12
inch arcs at 115VAC half-rectified at a frequency of about 275 kHz.

However, when i approach the base of the coil with a flourescent tube,
output increases dramatically and arcs are increased by a few inches.

Do you know what the principle is behind this? Does this flourescent tube
act like another load on the coil and affect the coupling between primary
and secondary??? I'd like to know so i can create this improvement without
having to hold the flourescent tube there.

Thanks again.

Dan
