VTTCs and sound.

Im curious as to why the VTTC has very little to put out as noise
pollution. Both of my VTTCs simply make a 60hz tone with some hissing
noises, but quiet for the most part. Of course when the coils get bigger,
that sound get a little more intimidating! So what are the physics behind
this? The arcs have more current and look thicker but make less noise.

Also, what makes the arcs from VTTCs and some SSTCs to have a straight
thorny look to them?

These are just the questions that many asked at the Teslathon, that i had
no idea about how to answer.

PS, just to clear things up, are VTTCs continuous wave(CW)??
